About

Omeo is a small town nestled high in the Australian Alps.
Once one of the wildest goldfields in the country, the township grew to a population of 9400 people at its peak.
It was a vibrant community despite being one of the most isolated towns in the Australian Alps.

Today, although much smaller, the vibrance is still there, it’s rich history still apparent.
I was born in Omeo in 1949 – quite a while ago, and yet the little town stays within me.
This website attempts to give an insight into its first 100 years.
